Spring Drags On
Mid-March is about the time when I begin to find Spring Training dull and get anxious for the real games to begin. Ok yes, Joe Blanton had a good outing against the Tigers today after a shaky spring start. Cole Hamels looks like he is in good shape with two solid performances so far. The bats are jumping and as a team, the Phillies are hitting at an average of .301 with 7 homers and 36 RBI. And still, I am a bit sleepy about the whole thing.
In my boredom today, I decided to scan through this week’s MLB headlines to see what was going on around the league. Here are a few fun tidbits I came across in my search:
-
Yankees shortstop and baseball God, Derek Jeter, sat out of a Spring Training game with flu symptoms. And then an Angel lost its wings :O(
Come on Opening Day! Get here….quick! if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget(’23806c5d-27e5-4f04-a300-94a868417e13′);

The Mets Jose Reyes may not be ready to play on Opening Day. His thyroid hormone blood levels are elevated and he is not supposed to do anything that could raise his heart rate. You know, things like showboating on the base paths or talking to Federal agents about his Canadian doctor’s link to performance-enhancing drugs…stuff like that.
Red Sox Nomar Garciaparra also retired this week. He now has plenty of free time to write a memoir about the many baseball adventures of his gigantic nose. Did it provide shade when trying to catch a pop fly in the sun? How many times did the nose save his life by blocking a high, inside pitch? It will be a must-read.

Wow, Jenn, if I didn’t know any better, after looking at your headline entries, I might think baseball was a sinking ship! LOL. Gotta love the characters though… no one gets me more fired up than that waste of a human Milton Bradley. Yeah, Milton, I said it. So what?

Jenn,
I want to first curse Mother Nature for ruining a perfectly good Rays/Phillies match-up today and sending some of the Phillies faithful home from Port Charlotte unhappy who did not see the postponement notice online or in their local news blurps today.
Only good thing is that it gives some of the walking wounded around MLB (at least in Fl) another day’s rest and chance to heal.
Rainy days sometimes makes do things like scan the internet for baseball news, but tomorrow the weather reports looks bright, sunny with highs in the low 70′s….Florida weather once again!

I’m with you lets get on with it already….. love your review of the week…. be careful though I got hate mail picking on Reyes and then A-Rod in posts…. although I am considering another on Reyes, since I found out that the possible symptoms he is showing can be a result of taking HGH… and takes 4 to 8 weeks to get out of your system… interesting, i am sure the Mets doc’s know all this hence his delay in season starting….

Apparently, Jeter thinks his flu was really food poisoning. I sure hope I don’t eat at the same restaurant in Tampa that he did!

Jeff – Agree about Milton…yuck.
Cliff – Hope the sun comes out for ya!
Peter – Some people have no sense of humor…I ignore them :O) Besides, if these players were all model citizens, we’d have little to entertain ourselves with…LOL
Jane – Avoid sushi…that is always my motto. ;O) Hope Jeter gets better soon! Luv him :O)
Really disappointed in Torii Hunter’s comments. He came off like an idiot. Just like Mr. Milton Bradley and the junk he’s been saying about the Cubbies. It was nice to laugh about it, though. Nice jokes!

Jenn,
Your posts are always entertaining. Thanks for the laughs. I can’t believe Tori Hunter said those thigs. Bradley? Well, we know better with him. I am counting the days till Opening Day at Dodger Stadium. The wait is going to be longer since they open in Pittsburgh first.
