Phillies Tie The Jays
JA Happ had a not so Happ-Y day pitching against the Blue Jays yesterday; but not to worry. As Charlie Manuel told the media after the game, every pitcher is going to have a rough start now and then. It was not a total disaster for Happ; he pitched 4 innings with 3 hits and walk, giving up 3 runs. All three runs came off the long ball. Look for Happ to rebound his next time out.
Jayson Werth, on the other hand, had a very happy day; Werth picked up 3 RBI on 2 hits and scored 3 times as well. No signs of injury or fatigue on his part, which is great news. One of Werth’s two hits was deemed a ground double after one of the Hooters girls, who pretend to be ball girls at Spring Training, picked up the fair ball when it rolled over to her down the first base line. So proud that she actually stopped a ball without breaking a nail or getting a run in her pantyhose, she cheered, high fived a fan and then tossed the ball into the crowd. Her mama must be so proud… ;O)
Also doing well, even after a scary hip surgery, is Chase Utley, who collected his first hit of the spring yesterday and appears to be on the road to a full recovery. Another member of the off-season surgery club, Pedro Feliz, is still looking for that first hit, but he did snag an RBI on a sac fly in the game. The Phillies led 7-4 going into the 9th inning, but the game ended in a 7-7 tie as minor league pitcher Joe Biseneus gave up 2 walks, 3 hits and 3 runs in the inning.
Chat With Charlie
Have a burning question you feel the need to ask Phillies Manager, Charlie Manuel? Here is your chance! Stop by the PHL 17 web site and fill out the “Ask Charlie Manuel” form. Manuel will answer viewer questions during “The Charlie Manuel Show” to be aired on PHL 17 before every Sunday Phillies home game. I plan to ask if he thinks Jamie Moyer’s fastball is quicker or slower than the average air-speed of an unladen swallow; after all, Manuel is the King of Philadelphia.
The Phillies will take on the Marlins today at 1:05pm in Jupiter, FL. They may travel to Saturn next, but only if Southwest is running a Space Shuttle group discount.
