Jamie Moyer signed a two-year contract extension today with the Phillies for a reported $13 million.  I do believe that this is a bargain considering the veteran leadership he brings to the team.  Of course, the Phils did need to set aside some extra cash for Depends and Metamucil.  I kid, of course J  I LOVE Jamie and I am SO happy he will be back!

Chan Ho Park has also been signed by the Phillies for 1 year and 2.5 million.  This signing does not thrill me so much, but we shall see!  Park is likely going to be used in a relief role.  Last year, Park was 4 and 4 for the Dodgers with a 3.40 ERA, 2 saves and 79 K’s.  His career ERA is 4.34.  My guess is that Park will slide into the spot that we assume will be vacated by Rudy Seanez – he’ll just be a guy used for particular match-ups.

Chase Utley held a press conference today to address his hip surgery.  He said, “The pain was bad early on…some days it was bad; some days I did not have any pain at all…I knew something wasn’t right.”  He also said that he did not know how bad it was until after the season when he had it looked at.  Utley admitted that he didn’t necessarily have to get the surgery, but elected to as he felt he was young enough and in good enough shape to come through it ok.  He then proceeded to walk right off stage without any assistance, crutches or any help at all.  He appears to be recovering very well.

Utley was also asked to address the use of the F-Bomb at the World Series Parade where he exclaimed, “World F*&#@ Champions!”  His response to the criticism was, “That was definitely an emotional day that we all had…was one of the best days of my life…I could have used different words to express myself.”  He also gave a mini-public service announcement to all the kids watching; “Kids: that’s a bad word; don’t say it.”  You heard it kiddies!  Utley says NO to the F-Bomb.  Clearly, a role model for all.
