Phillies Squeak Out A Win In San Diego
What’s that? A win? Wake me, I must be dreamin’. Well, it was like almost 1am on the East Coast when this one ended so I was a bit bleary eyed. The eyes can do funny things when you are sleepy. But I awoke to find everyone in agreement – the Phillies hung on to beat the Padres 1-0 thanks to the ageless Jamie Moyer and a home run by Pat Burrell.
Moyer was outstanding last night, and apparently near unhittable. He only gave up 3 hits in his 7 shut-out innings of work, showing up Greg Maddux who gave up 5 hits and one earned run in 7 innings. Although Maddux was also brilliant, Moyer was just a bit better. Brad Lidge came into the game in the 9th inning and sent the Padres back to the dugout quickly, earning his 29th save. Very nice to see Lidge looking sharp after a long rest and previously having a sore arm.
Another interesting note about Moyer; after the game, he was asked about possibly facing Maddux again next year and his response was, “I don’t know if he’s going to play,” Moyer said. “I am.” So there you have it. Moyer, who will be 46 years old by the 2009 season, intends to return. I am very excited to hear that Jamie will be back! I just love him J So, I have put together a few things he might need for the 2009 season and gathered them here in this photo. It never hurts to be prepared. (All in good fun everyone! – we know he is not THAT old J )
So, the Phillies offense still remains a rubik cube
that apparently no one can solve. And I know some 12 year olds who can figure that thing out in seconds! Ok well, hitting is a whole different monster. Let’s just hope this team has done some figuring over night, because I am pretty sure Kyle Kendrick will not pitch a shut-out for them. And if he does, I will gladly eat my words and torture myself by attempting to solve that stupid cube thingy. There ya go – incentive. Now go strike everyone out, Kyle! Go Phillies!
